COVERT OBSERVATION

OVERT OBSERVATION

The team distributed a 10 question survey to all student Learning Technology Consultants in order to achieve more personal impressions of the issues and inconsistencies taking place in CIT.  Our results revealed several unique insights such as different perceptions of the job description, poor methods of training, unpreparedness to answer common questions, and a perceived unequal effort in completing job tasks.

MAJOR FINDINGS:

  • Taking advantage of policies while boss is not present

  • Tardiness without notification

  • Focusing on activities other than assigned projects / not meeting due dates

  • Long-term employees still unfamiliar with certain procedures / software

  • Missing & unaccounted for inventory borrowed by other CIT employees and not recorded

The team made a visit to CIT for a tour and to find out more about departmental services and the tasks performed for the Learning Technology Consultant position. This visit gave us a better perception of how LTC students interact with CIT colleagues, as well as clients, on a daily basis.

MAJOR FINDINGS:

  • Each LTC has a specialty that usually pertains to the projects they are assigned

  • Not all LTC's have the same knowledge of the programs that CIT offers assistance with on a daily basis

  • There is a different database for every type of log that LTCs must record on a daily basis: keys, room scheduling, traffic, phone calls, house calls, timesheets -- and there is no way to streamline these.

  • The LTC Supervisor is only around for several hours a day, and different times every day

  • Timeclock used by LTCs is based on a system of trust
